what is scoliosis??

Scoliosis is an abnormal curve of the spine.it is not a decease.It is a curving of the spine. The spine curves away from the middle or sideways.Scoliosis is not caused by carrying heavy objects (such as heavy school bags on one shoulder), sports or physical activities, poor standing or sleeping postures, or a lack of calcium in the diet. Scoliosis affects the whole body.

the symptoms...

A doctor may suspect scoliosis if one shoulder appears to be higher than
the other, or the pelvis appears to be tilted. Untrained observers often do not
notice the curving in the earlier stages.Four out of five cases of scoliosis are idiopathic , meaning the cause is unknown. While idiopathic scoliosis tends to run in families, no responsible genes had been identified as of 1997.

Scoliosis causes a noticeable asymmetry in the torso when viewed from the
front or back. The first sign of scoliosis is often seen when a child is wearing a bathing suit or underwear. A child may appear to be standing with one shoulder higher than another.

Patients who have reached skeletal maturity are less likely to have a worsening case. Some severe cases of scoliosis can lead to diminishing lung capacity, putting pressure on the heart, and restricting physical activities.

The signs of scoliosis can include:

1.Uneven musculature on one side of the spine
2.Uneven hips / leg lengths
3.Slow nerve action (in some cases)
4. A rib prominence and/or prominent shoulder blade;
caused by rotation of the ribcage in thoracic scoliosis.
